How many OTA programs are there?
As of October 9, 2026, ACOTE lists 226 active occupational therapy assistant programs: 207 associate-degree and 19 bachelor's-degree. 24 are new programs still in the accreditation process.
How long does it take to become an OTA?
Most OTA associate programs take about two years, including at least 16 weeks of full-time Level II fieldwork. After graduating you take the NBCOT COTA exam and apply for a state license.
What is the difference between an OT and an OTA?
Occupational therapists (OTs) evaluate clients and design the treatment plan; occupational therapy assistants (OTAs) deliver treatment under an OT’s supervision. OTs need a master’s or doctorate; OTAs need an associate or bachelor’s from an accredited OTA program.
How much do occupational therapy assistants make?
