Indiana has 2 ACOTE (Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education) accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) Schools which provides an associate degree in Occupational Therapy Assistant. The IOTA is a non-profit volunteer organization which provides a professional community for its members. The IOTA is a state-based professional organization for the occupational therapy profession in Indiana.

A temporary permit to practice as an occupational therapy assistant (OTA) may be granted to persons who have completed the educational and experience requirements for licensure and are waiting to take or receive the results of the certification examination. A person with a temporary permit may only practice occupational therapy assisting under the direct supervision of an Indiana certified occupational therapist that is responsible for the patient.
#1 University of Southern Indiana (USI)-
The OTA School @ USI provides an Associate degree in Occupational Therapy Assistant. The program includes 17 credit hours foundation of liberal arts and sciences and 49 credit hours of occupational therapy assistant courses.
The prospective OTA student must be accepted for admission to USI before completing a separate application to the OTA program. The selection of students for admission to the program is based on a combined score that includes the standardized interview with the Occupational Therapists Admission Committee (weighted 30%), and the average prerequisite GPA (weighted 70%).
The USI also offers a Master of Science degree in Occupational therapy (MSOT). This program is an entry-level program for the occupational therapist.

The OTA School at HU offers a unique combination of degrees, which includes an associate and a bachelor degree. Both the degrees will be earned at the same time leading to a variety of post-graduation opportunities. The OTA program is in the process of transitioning to the occupational therapy assistant baccalaureate degree.
An OTA graduate may enter the profession following the successful passing of the national exam or apply to the doctoral program to become an occupational therapist.
Huntington University also offers an entry-level doctoral program in occupational therapy (OTD).
