Occupational therapist and Occupational therapy Assistants are required to get a license from the South Carolina Board of Occupational Therapy.
Satisfactory completion of both the academic program and fieldwork are required to be eligible to take the Certification Examination of the NBCOT and get license offered by the South Carolina Board of Occupational Therapy. Successful completion of the licensure test allows graduates to practice the profession in South Carolina.

Temporary OT/OTA License:
A temporary license to practice as an occupational therapist (OT) or as an occupational therapy assistant (OTA) may be granted to persons who have completed the educational and experience requirements for licensure and are waiting to take or receive the results of the certification examination. Temporary licenses may be renewed once in the discretion of the board, upon good cause shown.

The Occupational Therapy Schools at MUSC offers entry-level Occupational Therapy Doctorate degree (OTD-entry level). The OT school is no more offering a Master of Science in occupational therapy and upgraded its program into OTD. The OTD students will be admitted from May 2019.
The OT school’s Inter-professional education is a hallmark of the program and involves connections with other health professionals across the campus and in the community. The school has a good reputation and ranked #17 nationally by U.S. News and World Report. The school has state-of-the-art labs and facilities.
Students get more exposure to learning at CARES (Community Aid Relief Education Support). It’s the Physical, Occupational, and Speech Therapy clinic, which is an MUSC student-run free clinic.

#2 Lenoir-Rhyne University (Columbia Campus, SC)
In 2016 the Lenoir-Rhyne University had started a Master of Science in Occupational Therapy program in South Carolina through Distance learning. Lecture classes are provided through live interactive video networking, while lab and specialty classes are held separately at CGSC. The CGSC location has full-time faculty who are licensed occupational therapists.
