The Texas Occupational Therapy Association (TOTA)-
The occupational therapist and occupational therapist assistant have their own association in Texas, which provide basic support to the OT, OTA, and students of OT or OTA program.
There is no separate OT association in Houston, everybody joins the membership of state-based association i.e. TOTA.
The total membership in TOTA stands at approximately 1600, which includes occupational therapists, occupational therapy assistants, and OT or OTA students.
Texas Board of Occupational Therapy Examiners (TBOTE)-
The TBOTE is the licensing authority for the occupational therapist and occupational therapy assistant in Houston, Texas.
Approximately 9,790 occupational therapists and 5,461 occupational therapy assistants are currently licensed by the Texas Board of Occupational Therapy Examiners.
Temporary License-
The TBOTE may provide a temporary license to the OT and OTA. A temporary license is only available to the candidate who is appearing the NBCOT exam for the first time and has never held a license in any US State, territory, or foreign country for OT practice.
An Occupational Therapist with a temporary license must have on-the-premises supervision by an OT with a regular license.

OTA applicant school-
One new OTA school has been applied for the ACOTE’s accreditation in Houston. This new OTA program has been granted an “applicant” status by AOTA’s ACOTE. Until Candidacy Status has been granted by ACOTE, this program cannot admit students into the OTA program.
